| Description: | The successful candidate will have the primary responsibility for the livestock component of the Agricultural Teaching Program at Lincoln University and will advise students on appropriate coursework and job opportunities available with their degree. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising and coordinating activities of the Agriculture Club in cooperation with University farm personnel. These activities include training and supervision of the Agriculture Club as members attend county and state fairs to showcase university livestock and in teaching fundamentals of fitting and showing animals. The species currently used in shows are goats, sheep and cattle. The successful candidate will involve students in management and conducting research with a small herd of South Devon Cattle. Faculty, are expected to collaborate with research faculty on projects where their expertise is beneficial. It is expected that grant proposals will be submitted to assist in supporting their teaching and research efforts. Closing date for applications is January 30, 2009.

| Qualifications: | Candidates should have a DVM or a Ph.D. degree in a discipline of Animal Science. A strong background in livestock production and management is required and experience judging/showing livestock and teaching at the College level is preferred. Interest in integrated and minimum input Agriculture is beneficial. Effective oral and written communication skills and a willingness and ability to work in a team-oriented environment with a diverse group of faculty and students are essential.
Appointment: A 12-month, permanent, non-tenure track position split between Cooperative Research and the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. This will be an approximately 25%/75% split, respectively, but will vary. |
